Mental Health & Wellbeing
At Harris Academy Morden we take great pride in the way we support and care for all members of our Academy community. Nationally, we know that the context relating to wellbeing and mental health has changed significantly and there are a growing number of adults and children who are suffering with mental health issues.
At Harris Academy Morden we aim to create an environment where all children and adults understand the importance of taking care of their emotional wellbeing which includes promoting good positive mental health. We recognise that we have an active role in protecting our students from issues which may arise surrounding mental health and self-harm. Our vision is for all students to be self-managers of their own wellbeing, having developed the tools and strategies to be able to look after their own mental health. At the same time we ensure all members of our Academy are aware that there are always people available to support them should they need additional help.

Welcome from Mrs Edwards, I am the Senior Mental Health Lead at Harris Academy Morden.
We offer a range of support at Harris Academy Morden to support students who are struggling with low mood or poor emotional wellbeing. We have four members of staff who are Emotional Literacy Support Assistants (ELSAs) with another member of staff currently completing the training. We have six members of staff who are student Mental Health First Aiders (MHFA) and two trained adult MHFAs. The ELSAs and MHFAs offer weekly one to one support for our pupils.
Our entire Student Council are Mental Health Champions; they are trained to spot the signs early to ensure students receive the right support quickly.

Keeping Children Safe in Education 2024 states:
Where children have suffered abuse and neglect, or other potentially traumatic adverse childhood experiences, this can have a lasting impact throughout childhood, adolescence and into adulthood. It is key that staff are aware of how these children’s experiences, can impact on their mental health, behaviour, attendance and progress at school. More information can be found in the Mental health and behaviour in schools guidance: https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/mental-health-and-behaviour-in-schools--2
